FOIL ROASTER
Platter Pairs
Inspired by Jamaican cuisine, platter pairs were designed and crafted to highlight the communal and social aspect of eating roast fish. The excitement and anticipation of unwrapping one could make anyone salivate.

Concept Development
Roast fish is a traditional Jamaican dish wherein a whole fish is seasoned and stuffed. It is then wrapped in foil paper and placed to steam on a grill or in an oven. It is served with a variety of sides, my favorite being water crackers. This set of platter pairings celebrate the vibrancy of the cuisine through surface decoration, capturing the colors of the ingredients as well as its foil wrapping. Aiming to capture the holistic experience of dining while stoking emotional resonance through visual cues, the platters transcend their function, serving as a vehicle down memory lane.
Fabrication
The platters were created by employing hand built ceramics techniques, therein establishing a design language which captured the experience of consuming this dish. Texture was added and the clay was formed to capture the spirit of aluminum foil. The platters were bisque fired and dipped in majolica. Surface decoration then took the forefront, as overglazes were used to hand paint. Platinum luster was then applied to the lips and sides of the platters, thus visually reinforcing the notion of foil paper.
